About Us

Sahara Bloom was founded, two years ago, as a result of Melissa Yeong’s frustration at the lack of beautiful yet sustainable and renewable clothing and homewares on the market. With a background in fashion and a love of textiles, Melissa has been long aware of the environmental hazards synthetic, and even many “natural” fabrics have (cotton uses 25% of the world’s insecticides and more than 10% of the pesticides).

This led her to search for alternatives, culminating in the discovery of fabric made from bamboo, grown without ANY pesticides! Used by the Chinese for a myriad of purposes for 5000 years and made famous by cute and cuddly pandas, bamboos most recent incarnation is as a soft, versatile and renewable fabric, perfect for clothing and household linen.

Silky soft and beautiful to touch, bamboo is truly the fabric of the future. Due to its natural anti-bacterial properties, bamboo requires no pesticides or fertilizers to help it grow. Finally, a fabric that you can feel good wearing on the inside and out!

This discovery resulted in the birth of Sahara Bloom: Bamboo Living Range. From towels to underwear; tshirts to baby clothes, the aim was to always provide affordable, desirable and sustainable alternatives. Living and wearing green does not have to mean wearing hessian sacks. This ethos is carried through the entire business with the use of recyclable packaging (made also from bamboo), and also bamboo printed ribbon (yes we are obsessed!).

Indeed Sahara Bloom is a truly comprehensive stylish and comfortable lifestyle range which makes living green an easy and affordable option.
