I won’t say daily, weekly or even monthly. But I’ve decided to introduce a one of the above random fact. It may be clothing related, it may be environmentally related, it may be food related. But it will definitely be random and hopefully interesting.
Mobile Phones
Australians upgrade or exchange their mobile phones every 18 months (even though the average lifespan of the mobile phone is 7 years). This means that there are approximately 16 million unused phones stashed away at home or in the office (or in the car – you get my drift).
Over 90% of materials in a mobile phone are recoverable, such as nickel, cadmium, cobalt, gold, silver, plastic and other metals. However, mostly they are probably sitting in land fills or in our living spaces, thereby contributing to our un-zen like living rooms, offices, drawers etc.
The smarter (and more zen ;)) approach would be to recycle them! Yes, believe me although you might think “a back up phone will be sooo useful”, once you’ve moved on to your new shinier version, you’ll find it hard to go back. Curse the day they invented i-phones!
So check out http://www.mobilephonerecycling.com.au/ for your nearest recycling station, or better yet, set one up in your office reception or building.
Sahara Bloom are at The Rocks markets every weekend unless posted otherwise here!
Hope to see you there!
